The soap factory in Seillans : L'Atelier du Savon

At the Mas des Romarins we take very seriously our impact on the environment and aim to use locally sourced and eco-friendly products where we can, values we share with Karine and Frédéric, founder of the brand Aqui d’Aïa and owners of the hand-made soap factory  Atelier du Savon - Maître Savonitto.

They strive towards a more human approach to business with a family spirit permeating their “atelier” in Seillans (Brovés).  A visit opens up a world of colour and scents typical of the South of France. The product range – essentially solid soaps – are moulded and embossed on-site, with a strong emphasis on zero-waste using recycled materials wherever possible.   The ingredients used are biodegradable and certified and traceable where possible.  Recipes are naturally simple with locally-sourced ingredients.

Two worlds are offered by the soap factory :
Maître Savonitto. Traditional, with a flavour of old-style chemists or apothecary where natural ingredients with their health benefits are honoured across the product range; solid and liquid soaps, candles, detergents for laundry and the home… The range offers a balanced mix between innovation with the authenticity of recipes Grandma might have made, coupled with an olfactory journey across the traditional Provence of the famous author Pagnol. Some ranges include essential oils from Provence, asses milk from the Pyrenees and Brittany, and some of the wooden presentation boxes from the Jura…

Maître Savonitto’s DNA at a glance :
    • Recognised expertise
    • Local production using short supply chains
    • An ethical and eco-friendly approach
    • A recognition of the quality of local produce and ingredients
    • Natural ingredients that are fully traceable

The new brand developed and launched by Karine and Frédéric is Aqui D’Aïa – a Provençal expression meaning “from here and elsewhere”. With its roots still firmly anchored in the heart of Provence, its design is a little more contemporary and hip, very much in line with our own spirit of “Farniente d’épicure” which characterises a stay at the Mas des Romarins.

The new brand has at its heart, many of the same core values as Maître Savonitto coupled with a clever sensorial mix – an ode to Provence, its sunshine, its odours, its countryside, its light and heat… It takes you on a journey across Provence and all of her moods.

The core values of Aqui D’Aïa :

  • Sunshine – a love of life with a hint of Riviera lifestyle

  • Generosity – showcasing local riches, small-scale artistic production

  • Sustainability and responsibility – A return to the simplicity of nature and its benefits

  • Nature – aromatic plants and herbs, accentuated by a master soap-maker

Karine & Frédéric – Their journey

After several years in the luxury sector as expats, they wanted to come back to nature and highlight the value of French heritage and know-how, whilst respecting their core values of being eco-friendly and opting for short, local supply chains.  They are committed to producing quality products, that contain only natural ingredients which they’ll help you discover with a very warm welcome at the soap factory in the Heart of Provence, just ten minutes form the Mas des Romarins.

A visit is a must! If you can’t get there just yet, you can shop online on their site.
